» Ibanez BTB-200 Active Bass Guitar With Hard Case
The bass is in full working order and in very good condition – just general signs of use, a slight dulling of the metal on the knobs and the matte finish has become a bit shiny in the playing area, as has the ‘thumb-rest’ area of the neck pickup. The tuners work smoothly and keep the bass in tune, the electronics are fine, the neck is straight with the truss freely adjustable and the frets are good. The bass comes in a Westfield Tweed Hard Case.
The Ibanez BTB-200 offers a 35″ scale neck, which lends itself well to detuning or even for stringing up B-E-A-D. It boasts two Ibanez DX4 pickups which are actually split-coils for humbucking purposes, (they remind me of the pickups on a Thunderbird bass) and give an even output across the strings. Controls are simple – Master Volume, Pickup Blend and Ibanez’s ‘Phat II’ active Bass Boost/Cut, which is powered by a 9v battery in a compartment on the back. This allows you to add some serious bottom end, or roll it off for a more cutting sound.
The body is basswood and a three-piece maple neck with rosewood fingerboard with 24 frets. It is currently strung with a new set of medium-guage Rotosound Swing Bass Steel Roundwounds (100-40).
Soundwise, it’s really quite versatile, despite its hard-rock looks – the bridge pickup soloed is great for staccato finger funk and the neck pickup does a decent Precision Bass impersonation. The large body with elongated upper horn makes for comfortable playing with no neck dive. I believe that OX from Lordi plays this model.
